Front view camera connection

1 Attachment(s)
Hi folks,

I recently bough a cheap wifi reversing camera direct from China. In the end, I decided not to use it at the back (I used an AutoVox instead) and had it fitted at the front by my local non-specialist mechanic. He decided to wire it to the fuse box (see photo).

Unfortunately, this connection is always on - not that the camera will draw a lot of current, but I’d rather it came on with the ignition. Is there a suitable place to connect it to in the vicinity of the fusebox?

Any advice gratefully received...

Since the camera is unlikely to pull very much current, you could use a plug-in pick-a-back fuse connector to any suitable fuse that is protecting a system which is ignition switch controlled. Something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Large-Bla...sAAOSwopRYmKlu
Check in your car manual for the fuse box you are using and see which fuse in there would work for you. Make sure you buy the correct size blade connector for the fuse blade size used in the box.

Great. Thanks. Didn’t know such a thing existed.

I checked - it draws around 60mA - not going to flatten the battery unless I leave the car unused for a month or two..

I'll still do it properly, though

No, I meant that the camera wasn't going to be likely to overload any suitable existing fuse that you connected through.

Yes, I realised that - I have now added one of the piggybacks you suggested and it's controlled by the ignition switch. Many thanks for the info.

I only meant that there was no real rush to sort it out. Anyway, it now has a 10A fuse (the only one I had available) but, I suspect that, in case of a short, etc, even a 1A fuse wouldn't blow before the wire melted, it's so thin.

The piggy back fuse should have a micro fuse of its own to protect the camera . You can get them down to 3 amp .
