Hub Nut Size
 

Anyone happen to know the hub nut size off the top of their head??
Need to make sure I have the right sockets for the weekend.

Bit of googling indicates its 24mm.

Not sure if it changed through the years but I use a 27mm socket.

mmm.....I have both a 24 and a 27 so thats a good start. I'll post back with what it is.

Hub nut? The one thats just a castle nut with a split pin on the front struts? I just knock the split pin out and the nuts undoes by hand. Don't even need a socket.

Yes i'd read that too Antz, I have the sockets but hopefully won't need them :)

I agree. It's pointless using a socket because then you can't see to align the holes to put the pin in.
If the nut is bit tight for the fingers use an adjustable wrench or a spanner.

When fitting the nut, turn the hub in the forward direction of travel and at the same time tighten the nut to 50lbs/ft. Unscrew the nut one third of a turn and insert a new split pin.
Tightening sets the bearings and loosening sets the clearance. Result a slightly slack nut when you come to remove it.

It turned out to be a 27mm nut. My haynes book said to tighten to 12 ftlbs whilst turning the hub. Then tighten to 20ftlbs and then back off 1/4 turn which is what i did.

Went for a drive it seemed ok. I need to tear it down again tomorrow anyway as i couldn't find my bloody box of split pins and i need to replace the one i reused.

Interesting as I copied my instruction out of the early greeeny coloured Haynes. I have the later maroon one too but didn't check that. Perhaps you used that one. Not much difference between the two.

The 27mm socket fits the steering wheel nut too so useful to have.
