Stere switches on but no sound output...any ideas? ('93 245)
Hi all,
The stereo in my '93 Torslanda is vexing me...it switches on, illuminates etc but has zero in the way of output. I understand that these units have a separate amplifier behind the cubby in the dash centre unit at the bottom, is there a fuse somewhere for this that may have blown by any chance? Or is it more likely to be a knackered amp? I'd love to get the original stereo working, but if it's not possible I'll look at replacing it with a modern head unit. |
I can't say for certain, but there may be an internal fuse in the amp or in the radio itself. If there is then it will be visible from the outside casing of the unit and therefore easily replaceable.
However, given that it lights up the culprit is likely to be elsewhere: have you tried replacing the speaker output cables with a jury-rig to a spare speaker? If that doesn't work then it looks like a new head unit will be required, unless you know a good electronics guy. |
Hi,
I have exactly the same issue and think I have resolved..... First thing to check is the fuse board, all the fuse details are listed on the inside of the fuse board cover. check the one that links to the amp. if not blown then make sure contacts aren't corroded. if this doesn't fix it then it's most like the amp. mine went due to a faulty diode. I now have a second hand amp I'm going to fit at the weekend. fingers crossed. a number of people have said that the amps are prove to blowing and are cheap to replace. |
