Volvo 144 DL Auto FOR SALE

Hi

Okay - I hold my breath and with a metaphoric tear in my eye - here goes.

Volvo 144 DL Automatic (EDIT - car will not select reverse therefore drive and hope for no reversing to get you to your destination)

California White

Nearly 110,000 miles

B20A single Stromberg Carb

Stainless Exhaust fitted from end of downpipe to rear

Spare wheel wells have been cut out, flat sheet welded in

New outer sills both sides, fitted and finished up to primer

New rear wheel arches, fitted and finished up to primer

Floors are very solid and finished with Bilt Hamber

Base of A posts have been plated and are fitted up to underseal

Screen surround needs welding in the usual spots (where clips sit) but rust does not extend more than 5/10mm down towards bulkhead

Rear panel by OSR light needs welding / filling

Front panel is shot

Front wings are terrible

Near side doors are terrible

Off side front door, solid Californian replacement fitted – including new window glass channel ‘axe’

Off side rear door, solid but need fettling

Trailing edge of boot-lid is poor

Bonnet is very solid with only genuine surface rust

All window rubbers are good, sealing rubbers are adequate

Front brake calipers, discs and pads have 1200 miles on them

New unleaded head (from Brookhouse), valves and seals have approx. 8000 miles on it

New 123ignition and flame thrower coil professionally fitted approx. 8000 ago

Single Stromberg carb works as it should and had a new diaphragm fitted approx. 10,000 miles ago

Front upper and lower wishbone bushes replaced with polybushes approx. 8000 ago

Rear shocker bushes fitted 100 miles ago

All propshaft UV joints replaced approx. 20,000 miles ago

Front wheel alignment carried out successfully approx. 5000 miles ago –
very even front wheel wear shows this

Shabby maroon (wine) seats, door-cards and trim from a 164 (part leather) replaced the original sun burnt blue vinyl

Headlining very good, no sagging

Rear static 3 point seat belts fitted

Towbar fitted with 7 pin electrics all in working order (no fridge connection)

Whole car needs prepping and re-spraying

The car has a proper genuine 12 months MOT test until 7th December 2018 (not just bunged on there to help me sell it)

In summary, this car is very ratty and would only suit someone looking to restore, roll & restore or use as a donor – personally I’d use the head, coil, 123ignition, bonnet, nearside doors and maybe the seats if well worn was your thing.

Included in sale:-

Rear bootlid that needs fettling but no welding – it’s electric blue

Nearside front and rear doors that needs fettling but no welding – they’re blue

Both front wings – light fettling, very nice wings actually – one’s primer, one’s California white

Front grille – earliest one piece alloy

Various small spares, trim, rubbers etc.

Car is located near Bristol Airport

It really is too good to scrap and I’d rather not break it.

Make me a sensible offer??? PM me and also very happy to chat on the phone

DON'T DO IT, BILLY! You said yourself the family love it, so unless you've had the offer of better or are moving up-market, stick with all its woes.
With a car thats nearly 50 years old one has to keep on top of things, otherwise it goes to Sh*t. Although I've only done about 800 miles these last two years in my 164E due eye operations, I too have spent about £1k on the body alone just to keep it presentable, and in the near future will have to pay others to replace the rear crankshaft oil seal due it being like the Torry Canyon right now: no need for regular oil changes - its along the road!
My 144DL auto will be up for sale when I can see (I'm currently grounded again): see back page of the October edition of "Volvo Driver" magazine for a picture. My gearbox offer still stands - only sorry its not on the shelf and can't help remove it.
Seriously re-consider, but whatever, have a good Chrissie.

Sorry to hear that you selling your 144! I haven't been on here for some time after selling my 145 but thought I better update some of the parts I had offered on here following a PM and have just seen your ad.
Lets hope it finds the home it deserves, such a rare survivor and the best looking 140 series in my biased opinion!
Good luck with the sale.

This is back up on ebay with a lower reserve.

Cheers
