Fob not operating central locking 1999 T5

Hi all

Sorry if this has been done to death, I have tried reading old posts honestly but its got really confusing.

Basically both remote controls suddenly stopped working on my 99 V70 T5. All 4 doors still open and close with the drivers door key so I know all the actuators and switches are fine. I have no idea if this means the alarm has stopped working, but I suspect so as the little red LED no longer flashes.

The only thing that happened immediately prior to this was me swapping the internals of one remote fob from a broken case into another shell from Ebay.

Can anyone tell me conclusively what is broken and if its repairable without some expensive coding exercise at the dealer?

I have seen used remote/alarm modules on Ebay but I am unsure if the age of my car precludes interchanging used parts.

Hy Britten_Mark,

I would have a look to the the fuse, then the aerial central locking.

I may have the way to proceed if it's this.

Ah so the key fob aerial is around the ignition? I thought that was only for the key security transponder. And there is a seperate fusethat covers all this?

As a newbie, I wouldn't like to tell stupids things. But I used to have the same problem with my last 855 2,5 L 20 V. Impossible to closed the doors or open it with the transponder. No red light on the dashboard.

I've changed it and everything went right. For the fuse, I don't know if there is a separate one. I have to see the book :

fuse N° 04 : immobilizer 10A
fuse N° 06 : alarm - locked alarm 25A
fuse n° 18 : Command module central locked 15A

I'm looking to see the process to change it.

If your issue is effectively this, here how to solve it. You may have to open the box of the steering wheel. 3 torx, be careful there are fragile lock bolts.

As I feel inconfortable with the electrics parts, I would note the radio code if needed, and unplug the battery.

Sometimes just removing antena and cleaning the connecting contacts is all it needs. Use contact cleaner or just plug in and out a few times to 'clean' the terminals.

The coil round the ign. s/w has nothing to do with the alarm, only the immobiliser.
Try sitting in the car with the doors shut and turning the key to full ignition, wait 5 secs. then turn it off. Do this three times and then see if they now work.
Had this happen to me last night then I realised that when I turned the ign . off the interior lights didn't come on although they did when I opened the door.
Did the above and all back to normal. It's almost like it reset its memory.
Hope this works for you.

Did you manage to get it working?

Hi tried the reset thing and it didn't work. I have been silly busy at home and work these past few weeks and this is only one of the jobs piling up on the car -seized handbrake cables and a sheared drivers door check strap being another two.

I really miss the central locking so it will be investigated when I get a moment. I'm a simple soul and my list of essential items is few - the car still has a tape player! But this is getting irritating.

Yeah ! What else ? Discovering my old Jazz tapes was a big big pleasure... What sort of radio have you ?

I don't want to be stubborn, but I would look at this antenna ring.I may have one if you need. I've got one at the moment, works fine. But I need to replace the steering wheel box tomorrow, so, as I got a brand new aerial central locking, I will take the opportunity to replace it. The replaced one is for you, if you're interested.

Yes, you are being stubborn - as mentioned above, the antenna ring around the ignition barrel controls the immobiliser, it has nothing to do with the central locking remote fob. It would be very helpful to others on the forum if you can make sure that the information you give is accurate and not misleading.
