Intermittent failure of boot lock,rear wiper,flashing brakes
 

Help please!

I have a problem with the boot failing to unlock, rear wiper not working and brake lights flashing when the brake is pressed. This is intermittent with nil of note preceding the problem. Everything can be working fine for weeks then stop for a period of time before behaving normally again. No warning lights on dashboard other than “boot open” when it is refusing to unlock. Rear doors, windows etc working normally.

Any ideas? Apologies if posted elsewhere but I was unable to find anything when I searched before posting

Check the cables in the rubber conduit that connects the car body to the tailgate, by holding each cable tightly and trying to pull them apart. Often the copper conductors crack and fail due to work hardening with repeated opening of the tailgate. Although the cables look fine the core can be open circuit inside the insulation, hence the need to stretch them, if the cores are broken the plastic insulation will kneck out as it stretches.
Either crimp or solder new cables across the break, just remaking the break will work if there is enough slack. A continuity tester may give you false readings in this case as the fault is intermittent and if the broken cores are touching will indicate no fault. The time to use the continuity tester is after the stretch test has proven the cables are sound.

From memory the rubber conduit is a clip fit and you need to be careful as the retaining piece of the fitting is easily broken when removing.

I had an auto electrician come and look and he said that the wiring is all fine

I had this happen to me a couple of months ago.

The wiring was fine but the terminals within the multiplug were dirty and needed to be cleaned.

Exactly the same symptoms: brake lights strobing, slow rear wash wipe and my tailgate would not open even though the car was telling me it was unlatched.

I had to sit in the back of the car and pop the tailgate interior light and remove the fasteners to remove that whole interior light trim panel. You'll then see two multiplugs fixed to the roof structure with the washer tube running alongside them. The grey plug on the left hand side with a large number of black wires was my culprit.

I split the plug and one of the thin male spade terminals was clearly corroded so I cleaned it up with a small cardboard nail file and popped it back together and hey presto!!! You may want to use some special grease that prevents water or moisture ingress into electrical connections.

This might help you with your issue. I haven't had any problem since my fix.

Wrong model of car, looks like that is for P2 not P3.

Thanks excee 70 tried that and that’s a no go too. So frustrating.
Anyone know where the REM is fitted?

The most common cause for this issue is the ground connection in the 74/602 and 74/603 connectors at the rear end of the roof.

You can easily figure that out by temporarily connect a separate ground cable between the car floor (the are ground studs easily available) and the right side of the rear window heating connections. There's a 6.35 mm terminal available at the window. You have to remove the inside trim on the rear door to access that. Temporarily tuck the cable to the side and see if everything works fine for a week. If it does, install the cable neatly.

That's what I had to do.

Did you resolve this issue as I'm having a similar problem and am going to be looking into it in a day or two?
