$1000 164e must go

I'm a old guy(80) and after spending the last $1000 (at a Volvo shop) on my 164e to no avail, I give up.
The car runs but barely. I drove it home from the last shop. It ran well when I bought it 3 yrs ago but the problems started when I cleaned the engine. Not knowing there is an extra set of points at the bottom of the distributer, my attempts to get it running right ( said points got wet) got me deeper in the whole. Still having the confidence of my younger years but far less ability now, I was determined to get running. After many new parts (fuel pump, relays, injectors, harness, etc) and 2 shops I should have quit many $ and a long time ago. I have spent more on parts and labor than I paid for the car.

I hate to donate the car for the $500 tax deduction as I'm sure it would be scrapped.
I will sell it for $1000, you pay shipping.

It has red leather, vinyl?, upholstry in great shape. The blue paint has a good shine with 2 bubbles on the trunk. All glass is good. The ac has a slow leak and the battery runs down after the car has set for awhile. Also a new radio not hooked up and a cruise control I added. There various odds and ends that need to be done. I have too busy whever the car was home trying to get it running to work on other things. It was a great old car even tho I only got to drive it a few months. Also the tires look brandnew.

I hope one of you guys that know d-jet can give it a good home.

Your Volvo 164E

I must admit I'd really like the car, as I have a light blue 164E which also had running problems when I bought it. That cars fault turned out to be dirty pick-ups on the throttle extension electric thingie which tells the brain how much fuel to pump through. My local injection specialists told me cleanliness there was vital, and they were right (at least on my car) - I had to polish all connectors with Brasso !

However, the trouble is - the ocean ! From what I hear a VERY expensive piece of water to ship cargo cross - makes our Isle of Wight crossing seem a pussycat. Therefore all I can do is encourage you to keep at it and make the car do as it should, so you can continue to enjoy it. There's nothing like the reassuring purr of that smoooooth straight six.

Phoenix? We would like to see this car rise from the ashes! Suggest you post this on Brickboard.

I'd be confident that there will be someone close to you, well by USA miles anyway, that can come to your rescue. Might be to help with your problems or to buy but no one would like to see it scrapped for just small problems.
Good luck with it.
Sorry not to have replied to this when you posted 3 weeks ago.

I've posted this thread up on TurboBricks as well; they've got a fair few members out that way.

Good Luck!

I just sold my 75 164E in the Seattle area. It took some time to get a serious party but had near 30 responces from my Craigslist ad. A few from out of state.
I'd post it on CL if you have not yet.

HI Art, I'm in San Diego. What year is the 164e and do you have photos of the car? How many miles does it have and has the engine been rebuilt in the past?
