New 164 purchase

New to Volvo ownership having just purchased this 164 to get my classic car kicks. Paint looks awful but it has an excellent shell with very little rot. Must be a pretty early one, first registered Early March 1969.

Hi, welcome!

That looks very solid. It does look quite early - but the very first ones in the UK had no headrests, sunroof or power steering.

What are you plans for it?

Can you post up more photos!

Cheers

John

Good number plate on it too!

It has no sunroof, but it has got power steering, the foglamps look to have been retro fitted. I hadn't clocked the number plate until i organised the insurance. After putting it on a ramp at work i am amazed at how solid it is, i expected it to be good but it is amazing, there not even the beginnings of any rot, let alone any welding needed. Responded quite well to a session with the polishing mop too.

Yeah, very nice.

The foglamps are wrong. The OE type are hard to find in good condition, but if you can get some rusty ones, they can be refurbed to look OK; I did this "how to" article.

Cool, thanks. i might put grilles back on if i can't sort the foglamps. the engine is a bit tired but part of the purchase was a recon short engine which i'll be building up to fit to it.

The 262C belongs to one of the guys I work with, it's a really nice one that he very recently finished restoring.

My sister and her family live in Worcestershire (near Pershore) so next time I am down there, I might call and see your 164 - if it's convenient and you don't mind of course!

Nice 262 - and a nice photo which reminds me of the Volvo prototype:
