360GLS thinking of buying one. Need advice please?

Hi to all,
I'm thinking of buying a Volvo 360GLS, going to view very very soon, but it's been at least 15-18 yrs since I last owned one, I have other Volvo to drive daily.
Can anyone advise me on what sort of price should i be looking at to pay. Have seen photos and it looks REAL clean and tidy, approx 50.000 miles on clock, has about 3mths mot left on it. Your help would be appreciated thanks in advance.
Kind regards Tracey.

We have had five of these, admittedly the 1.4 model which I convert to run on LPG and it is a great car. It is simple to maintain, no nasty software to argue with and built like a battleship. If I came across a low mileage model in good nick I would run to £1500 but possibly more if I got carried away.
Usual gremlins are porous fuel pipe to the tank filler (stinks of petrol all the time) and rust over the arches and front and rear valences. No airbags but you’re in a car that will destroy most vehicles on the road.
Don’t bother with a variomatic, they’re too specialist.
Ours has just failed its MOT on a corroded brake pipe. Not bad for 28 years.

The GLS's are very hardy and mechanically you're likely not to find any issues. The larger engined 300 series do wear out their front suspension a bit sooner than the lighter 1.4's and 1.7's so listen out for any noises from the front end when turning etc.

The major concern would be the bodywork, check the sills, valances, inner arches front and rear, door bottoms and top window ledges, a pillars for rust. If that's all good then you're probably laughing.

Prices range dramatically from circa £500 and I've seen GLT's sell for circa £5000 before, however a GLS should be a little cheaper. I'd expect a good GLS to range from between £1500 and £2500.

Hi, many thanks to those that replied and for the advice. Cutting things short, I think I've now upset the owner as he feels I'm messing him about.

They just been in touch see if I'm still viewing weekend. I told them I'd done my homework and asked if they could be more flexible on price as they had offered £100 off the £2495 price, yes I'm still interested in car, was willing to travel 2 hours to view, cash buyer.
But owner replied rather abruptly-- wasn't right car for me and not waste our time!
I apologised that they felt that way there was no need for that as I was still interested etc they didn't even ask what I was offering!!. Again I have no intention to mess anyone about but I'd be a fool not to do my homework when buying a car and I was being honest with them it wasn't like I was expecting to pay bottom book= but they didn't even ask, such a shame it ended that way.

A shame things have turned sour with the buyer, sounds like you're being quite reasonable so not sure what's going on there - perhaps better to find another. Are you on Facebook? There is a nice looking brown 360 GLS for sale in Leicester which isn't too far away by the looks of things and is completely original.

Hi,
To 360beast, forgive me but I would rather not identify on here or any other forums whose car I was interested in, I feel it may be considered rude as the seller may have friends etc on same forums.
What I can say is I have seen and read the advert you are on about, I gotta say it looks a really nice car .

Hi SteveP I don't do Facebook but it allowed me to look at the pictures but not the details etc, I've not seen one this colour before, I would like to have had a read is it only on Facebook? Do you know? It is alot closer to me, prefer the colour of the burgundy one as it is same colour etc as one I used to own, but I wouldn't mind checking the brown one.
Best regards Tracey

Unfortunately I think it's only advertised on Facebook. It is quite an unusual colour and was discontinued one year into 360 production so there are not many 360's in this colour at all. The good thing is it still has the nice tan interior and will have the B19A engine. If you're interested I could perhaps try and ask the seller via Facebook for their contact details on your behalf if you wanted to call the seller for a viewing. The only thing I can see amiss is the mismatched wheels, but it should be easy to source the period correct set if you were inclined easily as they're common.
