Speedo kaput in 1990 740 saloon...any way to fix it?
Hi all,
First of all the odometer stopped working in my 744, then a few months later the Speedo stopped working...I know the odo is likely to be down to a stripped cog, but is the Speedo itself an easy fix? I can live with the squirrelly fuel gauge and the no-show odo, but knowing how fast I'm going without squinting at an app would be very useful! Many thanks in advance for any and all advice! Phil |

https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Ele...meter_Failures Hopefully something in there to help! When i had my last 740GLE, they were still plentiful, both to buy as going concerns and spares breakers so i was able to buy a good 36k miles iinstrument cluster for about £30 - now they're about £80!:speechless-smiley-5:eek: That might be your best option though. I'd also suggest getting a decent holder for your mobile phone and mounting it in landscape mode so the speedo display on the GPS app is larger to view. I used one recently called simply "Speedometer" from Google Play Store. At least you should be able to see it without doing Mr Magoo impressions until you get the speedo sorted! |
Accidental double post.

might be worth checking the connector on the diff, when the speedo stopped working on my 740 I found the connector had badly corroded and the wires had broken off.
