1989 360 GLT Fuel and Temperature Gauges
 

Hi,

I've just gone through the MOT. Needed some welding on the chassis rails but otherwise OK. However now my Fuel and Temp. gauges are not working. I guess this is a coincidence. Have looked at the fuses- although don't know what circuit they are on, all look OK. Has anyone any idea what the problem may be? Are there other fuses apart from those in the engine bay?
Would really appreciate some help.

I hope the welder disconnected the battery whilst he was welding. This was a well known problem (when I did a welding course many years ago) which caused some circuitry to stop working correctly.

Hello,

Thanks for the response.In fact the gauges were not working before he did the welding. So can't have been that. Do you know if there is a relay? I have been told that there is one under the dashboard somewhere.

I have no idea, mate, but I wouldn't think that a relay would be included in the circuitry for instruments. Usually they are powered from an "ignition on" point. I can only suggest that you follow any wiring to it's source and see if there is a fuse or a connection that has dropped off. Good hunting.

Just a thought- fuel and temp gauges are usually fed from a voltage stabilizer somewhere (used to stop readings varying with battery voltage changes)- if they've both failed it's likely to be this if it's not just wiring etc in ignition feed side.

No idea where it is physically on a 360 but it's likely to be behind the dash somewhere. Come to think of it, the ones I've seen do look quite like relays....
