Adding cig lighter socket in the trunk
I found a cigarette lighter in the junkyard. I didn't have one yet in the boot.
Drilled the hole with one of these: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_US218_.jpg It is already outlined in the plastic side part of the boot. Fitted the socket, actually found the wiring lying on the bottom somewhere , checked the fuse (it was already mounted) and followed the wiring after the fuse (went into the wiring loom 4 inches and then looped back out) to find a blade connector (that shorts 5 contacts together) missing. Once I got that from the breakers, it now works! The part mentioned last ('blade connector') is seen here on the pic casting the shadows: it links certain contacts on the (front or rear) CEM computer with outside contacts and relays. https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFgxN..._id=8800005007 But the question: how do I get the message warning me that something is plugged in? Supposedly that is shown in the dashboard as a warning when something is drawing current, but mine doesn't do this. Is this just checking a box in VIDA somewhere? |
My one only comes on (in the boot of a V70) when the ignition is turned off....as a reminder that something is plugged in
It doesn't do it on the other 2 in the cabin....as these have their power supply cut with ignition off does yours work if something is plugged in and you turn the engine off? |
Nope. I tried with a phone charger+phone (drawing 400mA or so) and a cooling box (drawing 3-4 ampere), but got no warning...
I got a chinese PCB that I can set to turn ON when the voltage is e.g. 13.8V and OFF when it drops to 12.8V, but it used 20mA in standby. And since I already doubled the standby current with my CEM fan that runs 24/7, I cannot double it again with that gizmo  |
