When was Uprated Angle Gear Spline introduced
 

Hi, I seem to remember some mention that the Angle gear spline and collar on the XC90 was uprated at some point and as such are much more reliable.

Is anyone able to give me some idea as to when this was as I have seen a March 2007 registered XC90 that I like the look of and wondered if this would have had it installed from new or was it cars later than this.:thumbs_up:

It was on the 185bhp/6 speed auto cars, so an 07 plate should be fine but still worth checking via the prop shaft.

07 model with the updated rear lights ... this problem seems to have died out now the older ones having been fixed .

Hi Tannaton, it's a manual that I'm looking at but suppose that it should be uprated on both manual and auto on a 07 ?

The 07m/y onwards had the 7 bolt angle gears instead of the weaker 5 bolt ones,

Don't think ive seen a 7 bolt one fail be it spline or gear itself

Just to clarify then - there are some 2006 models with the 185 engine/6 speed auto but are still pre-facelift models (i.e. old rear lights) - do these have the later angle drive/splines or suffer the same issues?

I haven't a clue but the one that I am considering is a 2007 with the new rear lights so am hopeful that it will have the upgraded angle gear.:thumbs_up:

Hi every one just to add I have a 2007 185 auto but I had to have both angle gear and sleeve replaced on mine. Made the mistake of taking it to volvo cost me just over £1800 I'd not had the car long.
