Camshaft Position Sensor Location And Removal

The Camshaft Position Sensor (CPS) is located at the end of the Exhaust Camshaft on the Near Side (passenger side uk spec) of the cylinder head
It is retained by two Torx bolts...

A faulty CPS is likely to show a DTC 3-1-4 and common associated problems resulting from a faulty CPS are poor running and general starting issues...
The CPS detects the speed of the engine, whether at idle, acceleration or deceleration by noting when the camshaft is at TDC on the combustion stroke...
Removal of the CPS is basic as is the installation of a replacement...
As far as i am aware there is little value is attempting to service the unit...save to say that the resistance between the two sensor terminals should be within 200-500 ohms
External view of unit removed....

Internal view of unit removed

The external side plastic cover can be removed allowing access to the screws which hold the sensor backing plate to the man unit...

However with the backing plate removed there appears to be little "self repair" to the sensor apparent...
