Get message: "Reduced Engine Performance"

I get the message "Reduced engine performance" in my volvo s60r. The engine sometimes does not start at once when i turn the key to ignition. Has anybody got an idea of what could this be?

Hi,

Unfortunatly I di not know the answer to your message, but I would suggest you contact Volvo directly or through your local dealers. If you are not having any joy locally in Greece, try calling UK Customer Relations on 08457 564636 and ask to get through to a technical helpline.

Two of my mates who have Audis (spelling?) Audii? have had this and it was a coil pack failing. I may be wrong but I think Volvos have coil packs too. They are small units that sit above the spark plugs which take the place of the old style coils. They some times break down and although the car runs they set it into "limp mode". I think a visit to a Independant Volvo specialist or a dealer is probably requires so they can plug the car in the fault diagnosis system and trace the error message. If it is a coil pack it may be covered under warranty and in any case won't break the bank.

what was the problem?i have got the same message.

There are loads of things which can cause this message, so I would get it to a dealer or a specialist and get them to read the fault code as otherwise you might be wasting your money fixing something which isn't the problem.

Cheers,

As previous poster stated, it could be anything.

Reduced engine performce is different than limp home.
Limp home is just that, the car pretty much shuts down and only gives you just above idle revs, so you can only go around 20mph, so as to prevent further damage.

Reduced performace is just that, somethings not quite right, can be something small like a reduced air-intake due to clogged filters etc or, something more serious.
You need to get the codes pulled by either a Dealer of independant specialist, the sooner the better as you don't want to make the problem worse.
