Removing exhaust temperature sensor

Hi guys.
I've recently had my catalytic converter stolen and am having real difficulty trying to find a replacement (for a April 2001 GDi).
I'm considering temporarily putting a straight pipe on it just until I can find a suitable replacement and exhaust temperature sensor.
I'm just wondering whether or not the car will run ok without the sensor?
I've driven the car a very short distance to a local garage to put it up on a ramp and it drove fine and ticked over fine - I'm just wondering whether it would give me grief once it's up to temperature?
Would really appreciate some advice as I'm a bit stuck and really don't want to scrap the car if I can't sort it soon.
Many thanks, in advance.

Sadly you are the 3rd person who had his car stolen from their GDI. Unfortunately, there is no cat for your car. For cars registered after 1st of January (or 1st of March 2001, not 100% sure, the catalytic converter MUST be R103 approved.

Quote:

From 2009 it became a legal requirement for all CATS made, sold and installed to have R103 Type Approval and affects all cars and light commercial vehicles up to 3500kg registered on or after 1st January 2001.

The only exclusions are vehicles not originally approved to EU emission standards e.g. grey imports subjected to Single Vehicle Approval.

Existing stocks of non R103 compliant CATs can be sold or fitted to vehicles registered on or before 31st December 2000
I tried to help fellow forum members and FB group members in the past, trying to get a replacement cat and it was a bit issue. Contacted a few sellers who had cats for the GDI, and THEY ALL asked for the year of registration of the car, because of the R103 approved regulations.

None of these cats had a hole for the temp sensor and I am not sure if it would be the end of the world if it was not fitted. My main concern with a straight pipe, or a cheap cat, would be with the lambda sensors(mostly the rear one) would be the readings they would give. The ECU uses those values to adjust the air fuel ratios, and the car may not run at perfect efficiency, with a straight pipe or a cheap cat. Not sure how noticeable it will be though

Would this cat fit https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324310217...0AAOSwDa1fb59C ??
I know it may not be type approved for your car, but for £30 it may be worth taking a chance ? I'm not sure that MOT testers would be bothered or not, by the type approval regs as long as it passes the emissions. May be it can be mounted with the identifying numbers facing up,making them more difficult to read, or alternatively any identity numbers/ symbols could be damaged by that ridiculously high speed hump ???

Hi , I too suffered a stolen cat last summer and was able to source a replacement for my 1.8 GDI 2002 with the "hole" for the temperature sensor. Because I am in spain probably the regulation Gatos talks about may have been overlooked. Anyway, my problem is that I cannot find that temp sensor . Incidently the car runs fine with the hole plugged - if anything I feel it has a bit more "humpf" . I have been running it for almost a year now - the only nuisance is having the engine management warning light glaring at me all the time

Hi,

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I'm in the same problem, with stolen cat from my GDI.

The only part I can't find a replacement for is the temperature sensor and without it the engine warning light will be lit and mandatory inspections in Spain will fail and so vehicle should not be used in road.

Original part reference is 30630243.

Do any of you find any suitable replacement? Maybe looking for Mitsubishi Lancer or Carisma could be an options?

Thanks.
