ABS/ESC/Tyre pressure warnings??
 

Good evening,
just now, on starting our XC60 D5 AWD late 2015, there were yellow warning lights for ESC, the tyre pressure light was flashing yellow, and messages appeared about ABS/ESC failure, and "Tyre pressure system service required".
A search on this forum implies it's probably a sensor failure, eg this thread:

The tyres are at normal pressure.

So my question is - is this car OK to drive with care for as long as it takes to get this fixed? I'm not going to hang around, will try tomorrow to find someone to fix it, but I'm assuming it won't be done before the weekend. And the roads are very icy around here at the moment! thanks.

Can’t see how it would be, my wife Megane throws up a similar error with alarming regularity!!! Renault sensors are expensive which is why I’ve put off changing the sensor.,.

You’ll need to manually check the tyre pressures though and it will likely NOT pass an mot with a tyre pressure sensor failure…

I've seen this before on a XC60. The TPMS system is a rotational one so uses the ABS sensors, hence if the ABS system have a problem, the TPMS system comes out in sympathy.

Whilst I don't think based on what you said the car is inherently unsafe, I'd keep driving it to a minimum - provided there is no red light on the dash or "stop safely" message.

As will all these situations - get the codes read on Volvo gear. Likely to be a £50 wheel sensor.

My XC60 used to show the tyre pressure warning on a regular basis, even though the pressures were all correct. I got fed up with checking the pressures and resetting the system so I chose to ignore the warning light and just drive on regardless.
Come MOT time, I was just about to bite the bullet and dig deep into my pockets when I had a thought. It was always the same wheel that showed a fault, so I decided to switch the wheels around and see what happened. The fault magically disappeared and hasn't returned. Go figure!

If all else fails disconnect the battery for a minute and then reconnect.

If might clear the problem!

It will reset the one touch auto-close function on the windows but that’s all.

So, short update... I found a local(ish) Volvo indy specialist, described the fault over the phone, and when they heard that both the ABS/ESC light and the tyre pressure light had come on simultaneously, agreed it was most likely a sensor. They advised the car was OK to drive carefully till they could check it over, but the earliest they could do that was Friday morning (lights came on Weds evening). Thursday, the lights stayed on all day. Friday morning, started the car to drive it to them, and hey presto, all the lights were off again. Took it to them, they hooked up the computer, and eventually decided that it must have been a temporary glitch. Said I could take the car away, and if the lights came on again to come back. It has been very cold around here (minus 8 or so at nights), and he said he'd seen this once or twice before in very cold weather - and agreed it's odd for a car from frozen Sweden to behave like that.

We had a BMW X3 that used to throw all the yellow lights and go into 2WD mode as soon as it got cold. A re-calibration of the steering angle sensor used to correct it but it happened every year with the first sign of snow or ice. Flaky electronics are spoiling cars.
