V40 1.5L Petrol Auto - what to look for?

Hi Folks, V70 owner here. My father is considering buying a my2019 V40 1.5L Inscription T3 Auto.

Can any of you offer any insight as to what to watch out for with this model - or indeed other V40s? Common faults, reliability issues etc etc?

All my knowledge is really around the V70 (mine is a 2013 5 pot diesel auto, so not exactly relevant!)

Many thanks indeed!

I owned a V40 1.5L petrol auto for five years and 65,000 miles and never had any issues with it. Automatic transmission is an Aisin geartronic so similar to your V70. The engine is a Volvo VEA 4 cylinder similar to the 2.0L but with a shorter stroke. The car needed a new battery and brake pads and that was about it.
I now have a 2019 model year V40 which recently needed a new battery and stop/start support battery and a new front coil spring but I suppose these items are only to be expected on a five year old car.

Great to hear - sounds mostly like it's just been general maintenance. I was trying to work out whether it would be one of the older Ford-derived units or a VEA - thanks for confirming.

How do you find the 1.5L in terms of sprightliness and fuel economy?

I find the 122 hp T2 to be lively enough and the engine pulls well. I have not driven the 150 hp T3 but I imagine it would be livelier still.
Most of my driving is on rural A roads and fuel economy is around 40 mpg on average.

Ive had and geartronic V40 T3 since Jan 2016. Car has done just under 39K miles, fully serviced by Volvo and is only used on longer trips ( Toyota Yaris for running around).
No problems at all, car averaging 43mpg but on the motorway can get mid 50s if driven carefully.
Only thing I would say is that car can have a bit of road noise if you have Michelin tyres ( from new). Currently got Goodyears and now pretty quiet.
Not the biggest volvo Ive ever had, but a good car to drive and own.
