2005 v50 2.0d turbo removal
Can the turbo be removed from under the car or has it got to come up over and remove the egr/egr cooler ?
Ive had intermittent turbo issues, replaced both control solenoids but im now convinced its the turbo sooted up and sticking. Ive got access to another turbo and need to know if its something i could tackle or not. Any how2’s or pics appreciated, cant find nothing on the forum or YouTube for removal. Regards |
I removed mine from underneath. An awkward job. You will need to remove EGR cooler etc for access to nuts/bolts. Check my posts I said how I did it under the title turbo and vacuum problems or similar. If you don't find the post let me know.

It's a pain with some very hard to get to bolts. Much easier if you remove the O/S engine mount (support the engine on a beam) and move the engine forward in the engine bay.

Yes it is an awkward job. First make yourself as much room as possible for access to start with. Support engine and remove top engine mount and lower gearbox/exhaust mount and pull engine forward. Remove Driveshaft and rear of water pump plastic housing (I think) to give enough room to remove turbo. Did the job in my garage at home with trolley jack and axle stands. Took a full day and much cursing. No local garages were interested in taking on the job. Good luck.
