Heavily tinted windows
 

Hi, I've had my Volvo S40 R-design for a couple of years now. I really do love the car, however, all the windows from the rear doors back are heavily tinted. As much as it looks good (its a black car) it really is a pain in the proverbial when night time driving. And trying to reverse it just a nightmare, even constantly using the wing mirrors. Even my husband has said it's not good which is saying some I tell you.

So, I have 2 questions if anyone can help.....

1st, how do I know if they are tinted glass or after market tinted sticky on stuff

2nd, how do I can get rid of the bloody things to make me feel safer/more confident at night

Any advise will be much appreciated 😊

if its that dark it will be stick on film on the inside of glass. lift a corner with your nail and peel off. my v50 is the same.

Fairly certain the S40/V50 never had dark rear window glass as an option so it will be window tinting film.
My old V50 had window tinting film which I didn't like so took it to a specialist window tinting place and had it removed. It took about half an hour to remove and clean the adhesive off the windows and cost £50.

Thanks for your replies. When the car has de frosted I'll go take a look at the inside of the windows. Why anyone would want windows that blacked out is beyond me, it's looks fantastic but by god it's not safe. Even if I put parking sensors on it it wouldnt help that much!

By the way, it's a 58 plate D5

It should come off easier at this time of year if you warm it with a hairdryer first. The cold makes it brittle and more prone to tearing.

Thanks, I'm just hoping it is film and not privacy glass. It really does look black black when looking at the car from the outside.......

Chavs driving around at 50MPH down residential roads at 2AM playing loud music. That's who wants it! :P Mind you probably unlikely to be driving a Volvo xD

Tinted film it is, I can't explain how happy i am that it has been removed 😀

Status Red, you're probably right..... I'm just so happy my car now has normal visibility and a lesson learnt... NEVER have tinted windows or buy a car with tinted windows

I have limo-black tinted film on the rear window of my C30 to stop people peering in and checking out the contents of the boot.

It is a remarkably good theft deterrent.

Reversing using mirrors comes naturally to anyone who has passed an HGV test so that is no problem.

Rear side window tints are specifically for people who would prefer to be driving a van and not a car !

Also, as a motorcyclist, a car with heavily tinted windows is an early warning sign of a dangerous driver who will have a vision problem and who needs to be carefully watched and given a wide berth.....
