Chirp from which belt?

Hello all,

This is my first post.

I have just purchased my first used volvo D3 2013 Auto SE Lux (136 bhp)

Really like the 5 cylinder engine reminds me of TD5 I once had. Hope it doesn't leak as much haha.

I will dive straight in.

In this really hot weather I noticed that when I start car I get a slight chirp for about 3 seconds around belts area. I had the timing belt changed before I purchased and I can see that serpentine belt has been changed as it a gates unique fir. The a/c belt i reckon is original as it has volvo on it.

It doesn't chirp again unless left for a few hours in sun then it will chirp again then? The only other thing is that if I go over aa speed bump quite fast on the drivers side I can hear a similar sound chirp only for a second so I was wondering if it judders belt for a second.

Anyway it's a fantastic car last car was a
Kia Sportage 2012 had a few more whistles but V60 is a proper car I feel.

Thanking you all in advance

I hope to be of service to you all too.

Many thanks 😀

I have the same type of Volvo with automatic gearbox. Just love the car.
Back to your question, try to poor a little water on a belt and hear if it makes some noise.

Generally I think this is considered to be caused by the alternator freewheel pulley beginning to fail. This has the potential to snap the aux belt and then derail the timing belt which can result in a rather big bill. The alternator freewheel pulley can be changed on it's own you don't have to change the alternator. I suggest you get it checked out soon rather than later.

Hi,

Thanks for reply.

Usually my email notifies me that someone has commented but not this time apologies for late reply.

Well now the hot weather has gone not heard anything at all and I was listening to the slight chirp going over bumps with both Windows down. I now think the sound I can hear is the locking wheelnut covers clinking as when I push them around they make a similar noise and are loose.

Still could be right about alternator pulley.

It's sold as a rock though.

I have found one more issue a little oil leak from on to the wire harness from air flow heater turbo thing. Thats another story.
