WANTED: Polaris wheels/similar deep dish wheels
Just how rare are the likes of these? And do they come in different widths and diameters? http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/8994/16hvog6fr.jpg http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/...5/volvo103.jpg |
Fairly rare wheels, they pop up from time to time either on ebay or here. I've bought a complete car to get hold of sets before. I've also sold a car with them on as the person was desperate for a set of the wheels or just loved the look of the car with them fitted.
The genuine volvo ones are 17 x 7 inch wide and heres a set on my 740 Turbo. http://www.chesh.co.uk/projectturbor/turborrimsback.JPG There is a company in Norway called Eiker that sells Replica Polaris which were slightly wider at 7.5inch wide. They also dont have the outer lip, you can see a set of Eikers on my 740 below. I have yet to see another set of Eikers in this country, many more sets probably exist in europe so widen your search there. http://www.chesh.co.uk/750r/bodywork/tintsnrims.jpg Last time i checked they were around £170 per rim and you'll find there shipping charges are bloody expensive. Cheaper to collect from norway in person or get someone else in Norway to send to you. In sweden they quite often band the original ones to get an even deeper dish, i've seen them banded out to 11inch wide. |
They look lovely! (especially the wider ones).
Nuts that they're only 7 and 7.5J with that amount of dish, they must have a pretty substantial offset. I did see a set with ever crazier dish when I was at Gatebil in Norway on a 740.... Looked astounding! Any ideas where might be a good start for sourcing a Scandinavian set? |
Still wanted.... a set of Polaris/Galaxie or similar

If they are for your 960 - they won't fit.
Facelift 960 has the same offset as FWD Volvo's (about ET42). All other 2/7/9 series RWD Volvo's have ET25 offset. So. they would physically bolt on a 960 but about would stick out a good 25mm too far. I think you would need to cut and extend the arches to make it possible. Also - they are very rare. Galaxies are less rare, but still people seem to want £500 for a set of those that aren't in the best condition and without tyres. |

Galaxies can be picked up for less than £500 without a problem, the issue is people wanting to pay peanuts for a set of mint ones with brand new tyres on! Pay peanuts, you get monkeys! Also, 42-25= 17 not "a good 25mm too far". I think they might be closer to et20 which is still only 22

Heres my Galaxies on my 960 (now breaking this car) running 215/50/16 tyres.
The fronts cleared no problem but the backs did touch the arches. If I had removed the arch liners and rolled the arches flat then they would of fitted no problem. It was under weight on the rear suspension that things touched. The fronts had no issues at all although they were very flush with the wing edges. Didnt stick out though http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g3...y/IMAG0263.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g3...y/IMAG0262.jpg |
The very pictures that made me think I could be doing with a set!
I'm sure those mods coupled with a 205 or even 195 tyre would work a treat. |
