My S40 Badly Damaged!
Someone hit and run my S40 on the N/S rear wheel today, i spoke to my insurance and they said i will need to pay £350 excess amount, but my premiums will go up. There's no witnesses, and no cameras. I parked the car for literally 5 mins on the cul-de-sac, came out and saw the damage. I am hoping the suspension part/s are not damaged, just hope it needs a new wheel. i couldn't physically see any suspension damage, but cannot tell unless i remove the wheel and have a thorough look. Whenever i brake, I can hear this scraping noise, as though the wheel is touching one of the suspension arms.
Here are the pics: The steering doesn't stay straight anymore, this is position of the steering wheel. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8493/8...8c016604_b.jpg IMG_0780 by Zuhayb Pics, on Flickr Can't see much, but you can just about see the N/S rear wheel has gone inwards from above. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8186/8...f1719834_b.jpg IMG_0778 by Zuhayb Pics, on Flickr Wheel badly damaged... http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8053/8...96e099ba_b.jpg IMG_0776 by Zuhayb Pics, on Flickr Urgent help! |
id say go get a full wheel alignment, if the guy sees any problems he should let you know as for the alloys just get them refurbished

Hopefully it will just be out of alignment, however a hit that big I would guess it might be new control arms if you're lucky. If you're unlucky it could have taken out the mounting points which will be spendy.
Get it checked out by a decent garage then make a decision about insurance. |

I hope the suspension are fine. As I am out of job won't have enough to sort out the suspension. I'm going take pics of the suspension now, and upload them. Will go and take it to a professional garage tomorrow morning. |
I'm surprised that there is no body work damage it looks like its just been against the kerb. Wheel re-furb and tracking.

Zeb, did anyone borrow the car? I really can't see how this damage could be caused under the circumstances, well not without somt sort of body damage too. It really looks likes the car has skidded and the wheel impacted with a kerb and then gone off road. Especially with the brush strokes of mud that match the damage. I've enlarged the pic to see better: :star-wars-smiley-01 |
I was quite surprised myself, only damage is to the wheel, and 2 dent's on the N/S rear door. Can't guarantee the suspensions arm's are all fine.

I'm fairly sure you will find the arm the spring sits on or the hub, or probably both will be bent, its a straight forward job to replace and you should be able to see stress marks on the damaged parts. its possible it could just be the hub / stub axle.

I'm sorry Zeb and I hope its a cheap fix, but I can't see how another car has hit yours without more damage it looks more like who ever was driving was going to fast around a corner or roundabout and skidded into the kerb.
