Non Volvo Content - LPG Conversion Kits??
As about, thinking about converting the wife's Astra to LPG however the company here in NI who does it wants £900 for the privileged. Found a company in Birmingham willing to do it for £650, but with boat fees kind of defeats the purpose.
So my question, anyone know anywhere who would supply the kit which I could fit myself? Thanks in advance |
Your looking at the £500 mark for a half decent kit.
There are a number of outfits who do the conversion in 1 day charging similar sorts of prices, clearly at that price the components are the cheapest ones. You local installers price of £900 is not bad |

Thanks for all that, I have sent him a PM
Just curious, if I fit a kit myself (I am a competent and fussy mechanic) are there normally any issues with insurance? |
You'll probably need to get the installation signed off by an approved installer once finished. to either get a certificate to send to your insurers, or to get the car added to the DriveLPG register which seems to be more common than certificates now.
Best to ask the installer if they'd be willing to do that, and what fees they charge for it. I assume it's the guy near the Odyssey that you're thinking of? Tinleytech website is good for into about kits, and they will supply whole kits too. |
Check with your insurance what they need. I would not mention that you intend to fit it yourself.

I fitted a kit, then just went along to my local LPG installers and they checked it over and added it to the register. My insurance was due round about the same time so I just ticked the modified - LPG box when getting my new policy and that was that. They did ask to see the certificate that it was on the LPG register. Doing the LPG conversion made no difference to the amount I pay in tax.

As I understand it, the DVLA should be informed of a change of fuel type and I believe there can be a small (£10) reduction in VED. It seems you need to provide something on headed paper from the original installer (which I don't have in the case of my XC70).
