Second hand parts sources?

So it seems availability of new parts is generally very good for Amazon / P1800, but are there any well know breakers or suppliers of second hand parts that are worth knowing about when embarking on a light restoration?

I have a fair bit of used parts about

Amazon Parts

I have dismantled Amazons for parts to keep mine going . They were all past saving before someone suggests they should have been restored .
Happy to help if you need anything .

That's a bit of an understatement! 😂

In my opinion based on restoring cars over the years I would of said that unless it is a rare part or indeed a difficult to find one then new is always better. However, the quality of some of the parts from main stream sources has lets say not been brilliant. The cheap Chinese copies of chocolate metal and poor casting often leave a lot to be desired.
If you can restore what you have then do that, if not go for a high quality second hand part, all supposing you can find one.
Stuff like brake calipers are as cheap to get restored as bought new , but chrome and monkey metal (mazark) is more of a challenge.
Stuff like steering boxes, gearboxes, and overdrive units (as long as they are good) are always worth buying secondhand.

Wondering aloud, is there ANY common Amazon part(s) more difficult to obtain in serviceable (let alone excellent) condition or repros than the 2Dr rear pop-out rubber/metal window seals?

I sold an excellent pair ~6 years ago @$250, and another similar pair ~4 years ago @$400; I’ve seen neither hide nor hare of any pair for sale since.

By far the most complex trim piece on the car to contemplate manufacturing, and from what I know, ain’t gonna’ happen.

Another good point for 4Drs...

Is this the part you mean ?

northNH Feb 28th, 2020 20:21

Nope...
Those are for the non-pop-out fixed glass; all rubber and easy to obtain.
Used only on the stripped-down models e.g. Favorit.

659137 & 659138 seals are for the pop-out glass; made of rubber and thin internal strips of metal...

No cross-applicability.
