Sniff Test
 

Hello,

Sorry if this a bit of a stupid question but I am looking for some advice.

I have just purchased one of the ebay sniff tests to do on my D5 XC70 and I am wondering when you use it? Can the car be cold or does it need to be warm, if its got to be warm do I warm it without the coolant cap on or whilst its been for a drive?

I don't want to do it wrong or burn myself in the process haha

I've got an old one knocking about, the instructions say to run the engine for 10 minutes to warm the coolant up and ensure it's circulating.
Fairly sure I did this with the radiator cap loosened off (did it on a bike) so the cooling system didn't pressurise.

As you know if you take the cap off with a hot engine it's going to spit hot coolant everywhere.
