Ratio comparison 4.25 vs 4.00 engine revs

Hi everyone,

I would like to ask the guys with 2.4T or T5 with manual gearbox, how does your engine revs look like while driving about 70mph in the 5th gear.

My 2.0T with the 4.25 ratio, as far as I remember the 2.4T and T5 had 4.00 ratio.

At 70mph my engine is at 2600rpm. I do find that is on a very light throttle as it is always trying to go faster and I have to hold it back.

Thank you very much,

I had some free time and did some research, checked the ratios for both gearboxes and calculated the speed of each gear at specific revs.

My calculation looks like this,

M56L2 4.25
rpm 3000

1st 24,97 km/h
2nd 44,42 km/h
3rd 70,92 km/h
4th 97,01 km/h
5th 129,84 km/h

M56H 4.00
rpm 3000

1st 29,21 km/h
2nd 50,66 km/h
3rd 75,35 km/h
4th 103,07 km/h
5th 128,1 km/h

So in fact it was quite surprising, it seems that the 5th gear is a bit longer at the L2 in total
