What's involved in swapping V90 ECU?
I've been offered an ECU from a V90 (same year, engine and transmission as mine). I have the idea of keeping it in case of future failure of the existing one.
Will it need to be programmed for my car (VIN, security system, etc)? Or will it simply plug in and run? Thanks for any advice - is there anywhere to read up on the ins and outs of the V90 ECU? Martin |
Just plug in, still a fairly basic ECU

One word of advice before you start swapping ECUs of any description - disconnect the battery earth terminal. Then swap the ECUs, reconnect the battery and Bobs your aunties live-in lover.
Make sure the keys are out of the car before disconnecting the battery and leave them out until after it's reconnected. That way if the central locking happens to activate and lock the car, the keys won't be locked in! My "default safe place" is on the sunroof - has come in handy a few times over the years! ;) :D |
Many thanks.
After I accidentally discovered how easy it is to lock the keys inside the V90, by unwittingly touching the internal door lock knob on leaving the car, I have kept a spare taped underneath the car. |
