Grey / Blue paint for a 1970 car
I've just bought a P1800, and though it's not quite the bargain I had thought it was (so it goes...) one of the upsides is that it has no trace of its original colour so I will be able to choose one. It was red which I always feel is not the greatest colour for the P1800, I am not convinced that it should be painted in the original colour. I am really hoping to look at some examples of cars in PEARL GREY or METALLIC STEEL BLUE - can anyone help? It's not great just looking at pics on a computer screen, I'm happy to travel to see them

Such a shame the 1800 that lived near you has now been sold. It was done it Aston Martin silver, like James Bond’s. It was absolutely spectacular.
At Templar Cars or whatever it’s called in Berkshire there is an 1800E in light metallic blue. |
Was that the one around the Matlock area? I think it must be from how you describe it- such a head-turner! I would dearly love to trace it but am sad to hear it wasn't an original Volvo colour. Mind you some of the colours from that era are really not great. The photo shows a car I spotted (Matlock again) in 2012 - but I think it is a lighter colour, probably steel metallic blue?

A mid-metallic blue was, I believe, a factory option the P1800E/ES and it does look really nice in that colour. I assume your car is a P1800E rather than a P1800S? I personally wouldn't but metallic paint on an earlier car and would stick to a factory colour. In my view, the lighter colours show off the P1800 lines better i.e. white, mid-grey, very pale blue. The grey with red interior on the early cars also looks especially good.

Have a look at my mispostings under PV: New here for colours.....

BobCat88,
To be more specific if you are after the most beautiful metallic silver grey colours from the past, I would choose between: Ferrari's Grigio Argento, as seen on the Ferrari 275GTB Jaguar E Type Opalescent Silver Grey. To start look on Google for such models. If you get the chance to see the Ferrari 275GTB in the flesh, painted in this colour, I don't think it would disappoint! Good hunting..... |
I've got 4 recent samples of code 102 Steel Blue Metallic from different paint manufacturers if you'd like them, also a Mercedes SBM which I almost went for.

I'd be delighted to take a sample of the steel metallic blue paint. Can we pm each other? (I'm new here)

I can't PM yet as I haven't got enough posts.
