Options for carrying 5 bikes?

Has anyone managed to carry 5 bikes on their XC90? I was hoping for a tow bar option but they mainly are for 4 bikes. I have seen a MAXXRAXX 5 Bike carrier but it seems fairly basic and holds the frame, which would make it difficult with women's bikes and sloping frames. I know a 4 to tow bar option + 1 on the roof is possible but would prefer to avoid anything on the roof. Can 1 go on the boot? Any other options?
Thanks

Would you consider putting a bike inside the car? If you have space of course. Otherwise a small trailer may be the better option. 5 bikes plus a carrier and the lighting required will be over the nose weight limit for most vehicles and bike combinations, hence there not really being any options.

I was thinking about a trailer as well, 'dhr90'. Not specifically for an XC90 such as the OP's, but on any car equipped with a tow-bar.

In our cycling days, we used a modified 6'x4' box trailer with several cars to safely transport up to five bikes. It would also carry a tandem and up to three solos, and, with a little rearrangement, could also accommodate a trike or even a tandem with side-car attached.

The weight carried is not a problem as trailers accommodating up to three motor-cycles are readily available - it is the bulk that is the main issue. The only real drawbacks are security when parked up and out for a ride, and storage when not in use.

Regards, John.

Hi - we put 3 on a Westfalia towbar mounted rack and two, (plus a long narrow Kamei roof box) on Thule carriers on the roof for max holiday payload!

Two of our bikes are smaller children’s Isla bikes, these go on the roof.

We do have a Brenderup camping/ utility trailer for which we have the carrier bars too, which we can fit up to 4 bikes onto using the Thule carriers. We’ve taken that rig to France when the kids were younger and had maximum clobber! We put the folding Westfalia rack in the trailer and used it locally at our destination

When we go on a biking holiday then often the boot is full with luggage, so no option to pop it in the boot.

I think this may the only option for me: https://www.maxxraxx.co.uk/bikes-rac...-cycle-carrier

I would have preferred one that holds the tyres rather than the frame, but it will have to do. From Volvo website the towbar nose weight limit is 110kg so should be fine. Waiting to hear from Volvo for towbar quotes then will decide.
