Installing a Diesel Air Heater
 

Hi there Ive been contemplating installing a Diesel Air Heater in the Volvo for some time, Now this wouldn't be connected to the Water to heat the Engine etc, this would be in the Boot, just to blow hot air into the car.
Has anyone ever done this? Where did you put the Exhaust? OR without Drilling holes everywhere, where might be a good place to put the unit and where to vent the Exhaust?
Any help or suggestion is very welcome

Stick with the standard Volvo parking heater
It's properly integrated, you can get all spare parts for it, there's proper documentation and installation instructions and diagnostics for it

probably best to ask on a campervan or boat forum
People put things like propex heaters in them all the time
some run on gas, some petrol, some diesel.
quite a small box and al self contained.
no idea how much space it needs around it to prevent fire etc.

A VW Touareg has a Webasto heater tucked up in the NSF wing, and that could be used if you wish? It heats and pumps the coolant and I wouldn’t want it any other way as if you start piping in hot air from a diesel heater there is always the risk of smells or even worse, CO pollution...

My thoughts exactly, and you have the added benefit of a pre-warmed engine when you do eventually start the car.

he just wants a heater. obvious makes are propex, webasto, eberspacher, probably others. some of them are small, fit in a shoebox, depends on space to be heated. they all need an exhaust outlet

Being a "careful" Yorkshireman I run a timer controlled extension lead connected to a 2kw heater into https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lloytron-F2...qid=1536955510 the car, 15 minutes clears any frost off all the windows and heats the interior.

I've used it for the last 2 winters to great effect, an extra 10 minutes even clears snow.

Thanks for that ;) I dont have a Volvo heater (Wish I did!!) But I would like to get it professionally installed but as I live in Durham, Its difficult as the installers are much further south, but really that it the route to go.
Can you recommend anyone?

ask the manufacturers/importers/uk dealers who fits them.

I believe that they come with instructions and its not rocket science. BUT your insurers are boubd to quibble should anything go wrong, so an install a good idea.

have you considred a small woodburner ? nothing nicer. Apart from the chimney sticking out of the roof. Look closely at my bus picture, yes that was once a bus.

Someone's been watching too many re-runs of TG on Dave methinks... :omg_smile: Though I will admit, their version of "Anne Hathaway's cottage" did look like it could be reasonably comfy to sit in. Not sure of the driving dynamics though, I think the standard Volvo interior would offer more in the way of control over the vehicle whichever heating option is used.
