Double din to single din
Hi all,
A previous owner of my 850 installed a horrible double din stereo which involved filing away the plastic rails on either side. Is there anything I can do to get a single din stereo back in there or am I destined for double din stereos now? |
You can get double din to single din adapters[or whatever they're properly called] from Halfords and the like.Whether one of these would be suitable after the previous owners filing I don't know but may be worth a look?

I was a little confused by this last night as in my experience all 850s came with a double din radio/CD/cassette, having just pulled mine out a little way it does have a guide slot (a bit like a drawer runner) on the side half way up, so I'm guessing the bit the previous owner has butchered is the rails inside the centre console. If that's the case I'd look for a double to single din conversion kit (as suggested by Dippydog)as any bodging you may have to do will be hidden anyway.

If you've got a new single din stereo it should come with a cage type affair that fits into the aperture and hold the new stereo. Then it's just a matter of getting a storage housing to fit the lower space.
Plenty of ideas on fleabay... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FP-006-Vo...3qD:rk:32:pf:0 |
Thanks guys, I've bought one of those adaptor storage things so I'll see how that goes.
Next bit to figure out is the dodgy wiring! It's a real mess back there, with various things spliced directly in rather than an adaptor being used previously. Man I hate wiring! |
