No compression - won't start
I've got a v40, v reg, 1400. Tried to start it Tuesday, having not started it briefly since Sunday, it would not start. Tried to bump start, no good.
Got it to a local garage, that's not a Volvo specialist, they have said there is no compression in any cylinder, and there is no oil either. I have not had any warning lights. This is a complete surprise. Any thoughts as to what might cause there to be no compression in the cylinders? Yours, Mark... |
Hmm only thing i can think of is that theres been no oil in which has caused the engine to begin seizing, often the cams seize first which could snap the cam belt causing no compression. Doubt this though if you've had no warning lights on, keep us informed, strange!

Thanks. It has puzzled the garage. They are going to start to take the head off to check the valves and pistons eventually.

It could be lack of oil to the hydraulic cam followers if you have run low on oil .
What model year is yours? 2000 on dont use hydraulic cam followers so would only apply to pre 2000 model year . which engine? Certainly not a 1400 :-) Fill with oil , crank it over for a while and it may well spring into action one cylinder after another ... This may well puzzle a general garage but not a volvo dealer ... |
Sorry it's the 1588cc. V reg - 1999. I'll suggest they put some oil in and try it

But why no oil warning ligths?
