ERAD fault

Found in diagnosis, ERAD needs replacing.. Car is just 4 years old , 61K mileage. cost £3200 plus:angry_smile::angry_smile:.. Found that this seems to be common problem.. Why is Volvo not addressing this issue,, Such an expensive part, how can they fail so early... Also there seems to be some ambiguity in warranty...in one of the U.S forum, they say it is covered as part of Hybrid system.. but Volvo U.K say is it not covered.. Secondly... can we know how many cars had this issue ERAD failure in past 4 years as freedom of information..Volvo agreed to absorb 75% of the cost,, but thats still not fair when such an expensive part fail when the car comes just out of manufacturer's warranty...also while Hybrid system is the USP of this car.. thanks

Think yourself lucky that you got a 3 year warranty in the UK. In Sweden we only get a 2 year warranty on the same cars, Australia gets 5 Years.

The onboard battery charger on mine died at 26 months old, not covered on warranty in Sweden, would have been in the UK.

See this sticky post: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=306789

The full cost will be covered by Volvo for cars up to 4 years old.

Warranty terms

But the volvo customer rep said, warranty will be same across all markets, when I said about different warranty period in US...So I am surprised..

That is just plain wrong. Warranties are, and always have been, different across every market. As are prices. And specs.

Classic hanging the customers out to dry using careful expectation management and redrawing their original commitments.

You remember how apprehensive people where when electric was taking off - unproven technology and all that? Would the batteries stop charging? Would all this torque rip up transmissions? Enter 8 year electrical systems warranties for the peace of mind. 4 years later - looks like all this electric is here to stay let’s see if we can wiggle out of our unreliable electrical drove train major component warranty liability by telling customers it’s not covered but we will pick it up for 4yo cars because we are so nice. You go and tell your friends and tell them that after 5y they are on their own and that 8y warranty that was for marketing only.
If they didn’t think they truly messed up here they would not be fixing it. Americans will probably bring a class action and hopefully our regulators will make them recall it all too.

XC90 T8 Erad Issues

Hi
I'm having exactly the same issue with my 2016 T8. Hesitation when electric power should be engaged. Even the Volvo technical manual describes the problem...which means it's a common one. Car booked in for service later this week, last time around they claimed it was a battery fault...which it's not.

Might be worth consulting a lawyer regarding the vehicle "not being fit for purpose", and the disparity in warranties for this part.
