Wheelnut woes

Hi All,
HELP!
Just joined having bought a 2008 V-50 a few months ago, and have only now discovered the locking wheel key is missing. The nut is chrome steel with a rotating outer shroud so very very difficult to hack/ drill off, and impossible to remove by smasing on an old socket.
The key has a 6 pointed wavy design, I think produced by McGard.
I can't find the part anywhere and the Volvo Dealer is useless.
It needs the wheels off for MOT repairs pronto and I'm stuck!

The car is still mobile. Is there anyone within striking distance of Princes Risborough with that key whom I could visit for 30 min to borrow the key????

Thank you!

There are several combinations of that McGard key so the best bet is to email McGard a qood quality photo of the wheel nut and they can supply a key from that. They have done this many times so it will not be an unusual request

They are generally regarded on here as an atrocious design with the key durability of chocolate. Many have been totally stuck when their key fails hence the need to obtain a replacement key via photo.

Once you get the correct key, take them off and replace with a standard wheel stud.

Many tyre depots have kit to remove these locking bolts, think Halfords does a kit also, certainly they are available from the Internet.

My xc70 never had them, wether the previous owner removed them and fitted standard I don't know but it certainly makes life easier. My wheels are so scabby no one will want to knick them anyway.

Paul.

The problem Paul is the spinning collar.

When mine buggered up I eventually managed to cut the collar off and tried using the reverse thread bolt removal sockets but nothing would budge it.

I spent the best part of a day drilling the centre of it out

These are an absolute pile of crap .
