Liqui moly

Buy a can of Liqui moly Diesel purge and fill a new or drain your fuel filter and fill with the neat diesel purge and run engine on idle.Runs perfectly on the neat stuff.I do not have any smoke now on 196000 miles.Only other thing done is use copper plumbing pipe to dump engine breather pipe to ground and not back into air intake just before turbo and cap off intake at turbo with 22mm copper plumbing stop end.

Now that's going to be expensive, the general rule of diesel thumb is that before touching a spanner it's worth checking 3 things in the fuel injection system:

1/ Engine oil level and condition
2/ Air filter (Needs to be real black to cause trouble)
3/ New Volvo fuel filter

Then as the last poster said, forget the fuel additives and try a direct feed fuel injection cleaner when you change the filter.

Liqui Moly is nearly always the best if you have to use a fuel or oil additive in Germany, although BG seem good in the UK. Bars seems to make a better range of coolant additives, including "Last stand before the heap", type HG sealants.

If you must buy non Volvo fuel filters from Fleabay (Bosch make good fuel filters), make 100% sure it says "Made in Germany" on the box. This is one good example of why I just read on Bob's the Oil Guy forum:

About a year ago I got a Mahle filter for my Audi that did not feel right...it was slightly lighter..and said made in China on the can.
I sent an email to Mahle USA and asked them if the filter was genuine. They asked me to send it to them for inspection.
In the email exchange..they asked me what car(s) I used Mahle filters on..I told them I had a Porsche 911, VW Vanagon and an Audi Cabriolet.
About a week later I got a big box from Mahle..with complete filter kits, fuel, oil and air for all my cars. They sent me four extra Audi oil filters too.
They also said the China filter was genuine..made for the Asian market. Somehow got in the north American supply chain.

Smaller Fleabay dealers are often selling oil, air and fuel filters that are not current OEM compliant, even though they are genuine. Nearly every filter company seems to have a plant or own another company making "One year only" filters. Mann have one in Mexico, but the other good filter companies seem to have them in either China or India. German filters have a 2 year warranty, BUT not if you buy the wrong one, that was designed for sale to South America, Russia, Middle or Far East. They are not the same!

A new Bosch common rail type injector is 2 arms and 2 legs, a recon one with a full warranty might be 100 quid, but in most cases all they do is run acetone through them and check the spray pattern, as most injectors sent for service are just gummed up, not worn out. Only the more expensive injection service centers do the job properly.
I would be ultra careful fitting injectors, as they need new O rings and Copper (Diesel only) washers, plus correct torque settings.

What happened when you tried the diesel purge, as I've seen good results from that direct feed cleaner.

hi sky ship these injectors were in volvo bags so think they are genuine ,
looking at bags been on a shelf for a long time 5 blue bags and 1 green bag
1 injector had a larger nut in middle but all were exact spec so they are on now and car seems great so far .
i supplied new glow plugs but they missed them and said all glow plugs are ok
another job for me when i get round to it .
