Trim specs volvo 940

What were the different trim specs on the 940?

I know of Wentworth.
celebration
SE LPT which is mine
CD Spec which is top spec I believe.

I noticed some late models were not fitted with AC, which I would of thought a standard item, but was it a cost item or only came on higher trim levels?

My 1996 940 has.

Heated seats, AC, electric glass sunroof, electric/ heated wing mirrors, electric windows all round. ABS, Half grey leather, Drivers airbag.
AW70 auto. B230FK engine.

It seems Volvo specification was all over the show.

Did late 1997-1998 models have a passenger airbag?

James.

Mine is a 1997 Classic (comes up as CD on insurance sites) and has all of the same as you except full leather and climate control.

No passenger airbag on mine and I don't believe they fitted them at all.

Volvo seem to have chucked whatever they felt like/the customer wanted on the cars.

Hello My 1996 940 CD has the following spec:
  • Heated front seats
  • Full grey leather
  • Climate control
  • Electric glass sunroof
  • Colour coded electric/heated wing mirrors
  • Electric windows all round
  • ABS
  • Drivers airbag
  • 16 inch Auriga Alloy Wheels
  • 433-22 Blackberry metallic paint
  • M90 Manual with B230FK engine

My one also does not have a passenger airbag.

Hope this is useful?

Ben

Can't really help much with spec other than to confirm what Luke said about Volvo throwing whatever they (or maybe the customer) wanted in to the cars. There is a reason for this and is mirrored by other manufacturers.

The 9xx range was due for replacement and Volvo didn't want loads of "extras" sitting around in the factory. As such they either "upgraded" lower models or created a "Limited Edition" (this was one of Fords favourite tricks, bear in mind Ford had a hefty stake in Volvo from 96 on and full ownership from around 99) from base models by adding upgrade items "free of charge".

If you look at the Escort Mk2 range from about 1980, "Limited Edition" models appeared such as the Hunstman, Cortina range in 1982 (Carousel, Crusader), Peugeot models such as the "Roland Garros", various Mini "special editions" and so on. These were all "run-out" models, Volvo did the same just in a more subtle way.

With all this in mind, it makes it tricky for anyone to accurately determine the exact spec of the later models to start with, especially with the usual disclaimer about "reserve the right to alter/improve specification without notice".

Good luck in your quest to find out what you should (or maybe shouldn't have) but to avoid disappointment, it might be easier to just accept what you've got and if there's something else you want/need like cruise control for example, add it using parts from a breaker.

Mine is a 1998 940 estate and it has a passenger air bag and side air bags in the front seats known as SIPS.

Thanks everyone.

It would seem Volvo didn't stick to a certain trim spec as I see good spec late cars with no AC etc. A real mish mash of parts.

I'm happy with my 940 as it has a better spec than my Lexus in some areas, ie sunroof and heated seats. Lexus is a base model.

I have Cruise on the Lexus and I hardly use it as not adaptive.
Fancy a GS 450.

James.

Easy way to check that Luke. Simply put a passenger of your choice into said passenger seat ( I would pick any member of parliament ) and drive at 70mph into a solid structure. Simple :shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked::shoc ked::teeth_smile:

The passenger air bag is just above the glovebox and it has air bag embossed on it.

You should have a keyswitch located on the passenger end of the dashboard Luke, only visible with the door open to be able to switch the IED (airbag) off for when you are carrying a baby in a child seat in the passenger seat.

Did an image search for passenger airbags, best i could find was this one :

Not sure about the "VOLVO" badge the owner has stuck on the airbag, that couldn't give a nasty imprint in your face when the airbag exploded!
