Main Dealer Service Cost
I've just been quoted £855 by my local Volvo main dealer for a 6 year service on my D4 V60 which includes cam and auxiliary belt replacement. This is normally due at 108K miles although my car has only covered 52K.
This seems a lot for a service, as it probably represents a fair % of the car's value. Is this price typical or is it worth me trying other main dealers? If this is the going main dealer rate, can anyone recommend a good Volvo specialist in the Midlands who can do this service instead? |
I have had no major issues with mine but yes dealer servicing is more expensive but in my area not that much more. I priced up some professional independent garages they are not brand dependent and found them to be 10%-20% cheaper. Not a great deal. With Volvo, you get staff who know the cars inside out and they have all of the correct toolings. Independents sometimes bodge it rather than buy a specialised tool and genuine Volvo parts, no risk of counterfeit components.

I would have thought at 6 years old and just over 50K miles your car should not need a cambelt change ?
10 years or 100K miles springs to mind ? Iain |
There's VOLSAA in Derby, Fox Street. Also one in Staffs that advertises in VOC magazine, ..... Goes for a look.
Oh 2. CP motors in Polesworth . www.cpmotorsgarage.co.uk And MIdlands Volvo Specialist www.midlandsvolvospecialist.co.uk. HTH's . |
Why are the belts needing a change already at 50k miles?

what is more important is that they change the Aux belt at 54000 miles . It must be changed before it gets to 54000 MILES , time isn't critical here , just miles … also make sure they check that all the aux belt/tensioner recalls have been carried out ! Best to stick to the dealer for this .. |

Is this a VEA engine or the older 5-cylinder?

Sounds about right for main dealer servicing price. I had that job on my D5 V60 priced up at a touch over £900 recently. Like you my car is 6 years old and 52,000 miles. This was priced up at £390 for the aux belt service.
If you join the Volvo owners club you may get 10% off the price, check with the dealer. With this discount mine is at £350 or thereabouts now :) Don’t forget with main dealer servicing you also get a year of breakdown cover too. Makes the price a bit better if you take that into account :) |
Thanks for your replies. I will challenge back the dealer on the cam belt replacement. If the time interval is 10 years this will make it much cheaper if only the auxiliary belts need to be changed.
Mine is the older 5 cyl 163bhp engine so not sure if this makes a difference? |
