Rain sensor calibration?
Hi
Has anyone heard of rain sensor calibration on our cars? I had windshield changed last week, rain sensor does work correctly (thankfully) but it require much more "human intervention" to work properly, its like sometimes its too sensitive or not sensitive enough. I would expect there may be some calibration needed to acommodate to new windshield/marginally different position or distance from glass - dunno. Tried to find out info if such think is even configurable but didnt find any conclusive info. Anyone can share wisdom on this topic? |

Do I take it that there is no software calibration in this device available? |

I bought this and fitted it myself https://www.ebay.ie/itm/VOLVO-C30-S4...53.m1438.l2649 It consists of a pre-shaped silicon pad and a clear adhesive. Fitting is pretty easy and can be done indoors once you remove the rain sensor (2 clips hold it in, once you remove the plastic cover behind the mirror). My auto wipers work perfectly now. |
Kit
I would be wary of that e-bay kit , it is very expensive , compare it to the genuine part which you know will work !

Thanks for the reply, guys. Seem to me I need to examine that contraption a little bit more as I am not even sure how rain sensor works/mounts etc. I got lucky I suppose anyway as it works pretty well straight after re-installation, I just noticed its not as good as used to be. Still its a win-win for me as old windshield was abysmal...
Will take a photo and post it later on, some of you may be able to confirm it looks good/bad and atleast I will know where the problem is. tx! |

I too had a new windscreen fitted late in December 2016 and noticed the rain sensor wasn't fully pressed against the glass (had a kinda air bubble trapped) the screen fitter was in a foul mood and I'd already snagged the scuttle plate he'd left standing proud of the glass....thought it best not to say anything so went back inside with my cup of tea and slippers
The sensor still works fine really but not as good as it could be, takes a few adjustments on the 'wheel' to find a suitable setting. TBF though I never thought it was that good anyway, an 'adjustable' auto sensor? what's that all about? |
This thread reminds me that I really must read the manual on how to use my C30 rain sensing wipers, I was frustrated the other day that they auto turned off when needed, then realised I had flicked the wiper stalk to intermittent which turns them off...
