D5 swirl flap removal

Has anybody permanently removed the swirl flaps from the d5???

No, but they have been tied in the full open position for nearly 2 years, probably 30,000 miles, no issues yet! 1 code is recorded for the actuator out of range but no warnings present.

OK. So fully up. Thanks.
Mine's been disconnected for ages. Never any issues that I'm aware of, and never gone into limp-home. I wonder does it really make any difference to performance?

interesting, mine threw up an engine service message when the arm came off and the flap was in the up position,( which I assumed to be closed) when I reconnected it , it was then at the opposite end of travel, car now fine

Sorry for the newb questions but what is a swirl flap, what does it do, and where is it on a D5?

Cheers
