Brake Pedal Travel Sensor

Vida tells me I need to replace the brake pedal travel sensor in my car #9441116.

Is it ok to go aftermarket for this sensor or should I splash out on an OEM one?

Thanks all!

I Don't know if the BPT sensor works the same as the clutch position sensor ( its a simple potentiometer) but there is a simple "resistor in parallel" fix that I did following guidance from the web. The BPT sensor specs could well be given in VIDA. The CP sensor specs are given in 2014D for sure.
The resistor fix lasted several years until the car was sold.

Cheers
Bob

Thanks for the info Bob, but I cannot afford to have the car off the road so would prefer to just replace the sensor.

Vida rarely gives only one cause and solution to a fault code so are you certain this is the only option?

What is the exact fault code?

Possible early years to have this faulty. I don't trust cheap chinese aftermarket. Get a used one from a more recent car (2005-up) and should have no problem with it

Keep in mind, this guy may not be easy to replace, not bad removing the thin metal locking clip - look how it sits in there before removing it, but difficult to make it 'grab' when placing the sensor back, because the sensor needs to be pushed with a lot of force to secure the clip - and it's an awkward body posture

Have you tried cleaning the plug with electrical contact cleaner?

No, but that sounds like a good thing to try, thanks!

I cleaned the connections but that made no difference.

Attached are the codes.

I found that when reading the value of the brake pedal position sensor it seemed ok with the engine off. ie. not touching the pedal it would show 0% and when pressing it would show greater than 0% but less than 85%

However with the engine running it stopped working altogether very quickly.
