central locking draining battery.

Morning all as title suggests i"ve been having an issue with the battery randomly draining.so flat sometimes that its completely dead..so i started leaving the earth off the battery which stopped the drain..one morning when i replaced it all the locks on the car clicked which led me to believe that the drivers dock lock/solenoid could be the culprit..is it a serviceable part?..the window rubbers are not great so could be a contributing factor?..hj.

The likely culprit is the loom from the door barrel clip: ~ you should find other mail relating to the same. The part circled has to flex causing the cables to fray exposing the inner braided wire. The switch can be dismantled with care (watch the little spring doesn’t fly!--
Open in a clear plastic bag) then the contacts can be cleaned- the exposed wires will need to be insulated and this can be done with shrink on cable sleeve. I have also used Polyurethane in this location with good results- you will probably have to cut some wire to enable the above & then solder back or use cable connectors.
The solenoid part if stiff may respond to lubrication but is complicated for a rebuild.
(If the metal rod can be pulled/pushed with free movement then it is probably not the fault)

I believe that this part is no longer available but I did get a used item from a forum member so repaired the original and keep the other as a spare.
Good Luck
Bob.
