V70 Buying Advise

Hi everyone,

New to the forum, so a big hi to all.

I was wondering what advice you can give to buying a Volvo V70 2.4ltr Diesel. What should be looked at? Is there anything to double check with the engine etc. Any noticable faults etc?
Currently looking at a 2000 model which has 152,000 on the clock (safe bet or not?)

Found another one on the good old ebay - item number 260731137654

Any advice on this one please?

Sorry if the post id short/simple, any buying advise is appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi Adman, welcome
These cars are capable of huge mileages.
Intercoolers tend to pop at 100000+ miles - oil below the radiator.More so on remapped examples.
Timing belt and aux belt history important - due at 96000 or 8 years
Rear brake shoes ( handbrake) a known weak point which kills rear hubs.
DIM speedo clocks etc tend to fail progressively.
Failing turbo/ vacuum control valves and /or engine mounts can cause the car to go to limp mode if pressed hard.
Dual Mass Flywheels can fail early and are expensive to replace.
Clutch slave cylinders are a gearbox out event also.
Competent seller should be aware of all the above.
History important - talk to who serviced it.Get a code reading.Looked after examples are jems.
At 152000 if major components havn't been replaced they're probably not too far away
If in doubt walk away , think about it some more and walk further away.
Personal opinion is if they are looked after properly in standard tune they are capable of 250000 easy.

These cars are well built and generally reliable, certainly capable of huge mileage if properly maintained. HOWEVER, you are looking at a 10 year old car and have no idea how it has been maintained or indeed driven. When they go wrong parts are expensive and dealer workshop rates are eye watering. You will need to budget for this. Best of Luck in your search.
