Acceleration Problems
Hello Everyone.
New to this forum but My Volvo has sentimental value so thought I’d reach out for some advice. It’s a V70 2006 D5 with 125k. It’s recently had very flat acceleration after not driving it much over last few weeks. When I go up a hill it takes an age and I have to sometimes get it up in 2nd or even 1st if sharp incline. It goes ok once it gets going on non inclines inc Motorways. To add context it recently had MOT and service. Just prior to MOT and service I had Engine Management light come on when I started the car (same time as when acceleration went flat) and soot filter Light came on. During service Volvo specialist managed to do enough regen on DPF to take soot warning light off although he said ECU kept aborting regen so couldn’t do a proper one? He wasn’t able to explain why?? Number of issues I was advised of at service include: Swirl unit faulty (adrift) DPF and EGR both have codes saying blocked And EGR sticking. Glow plugs faulty. Since service I had EGR Nicely cleaned with adjoining pipes. Engine Light still on and acceleration still poor. Anyone got any ideas? DPF or something else? |
Have a look to see if the intercooler is leaking, look through the grill and if there is a patch of oil on the radiator there's a good chance it is.
It's fairly common for a D5 to pop the intercooler, they usually have a tell-tale bow at the bottom, although mine went at the top. If that's died, it will over fuel and fill the DPF quickly. |
The intercooler looks ok. A bit of oil gathered at the bottom but not too bad. I can’t see that it looks bowed?
Any other ideas? |

Pardon my ignorance but would it have a DPF, mine doesnt, The problem does sound just like mine was when the front engine mounting was loosing the vacuum , dead sluggish at low speeds but seemed quite normal at motorway cruising

Just an update.
Indie mechanic found this issue. Was related to the actuator rod on the turbo which had come adrift. Reconnected and car now going fine. |
