Volvo 440 engine straing noise

Hi little issue with a 440 glt fuel injected I have .it started making a slight chuffing ,grating noise and sounded like it was in the head a year ago
Last week it got worse ,so I took the rocker cover off expecting the cam to be worn but all looks good

So after my check I have now taken the head off and that all looks OK no crack or damage ,all inlet valves same colour same withe exhaust ,no cracked buckets etc nothing loose ,don't think it's ever been opened up
Only got 78k on it

I have just had a thought and could it be a noisy injector ?
Or maby oil pump ?

Any advice would be great

On some 440s, notably the single point injection B18U engine, the inlet manifold gaskets were prone to failure resulting in odd noises and rough running. I think the 440 GLT has a multipoint injection system and presumably a different inlet manifold. so this may well be a red herring.

So far as I recall I don't think any of the 400 series engines were particularly prone to oil pump or valve train problems.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Which engine does your GLT have?

And do you have any drop in performance of any kind to go with the noise?

Is the noise there all the time - ie when idling and driving, or just one or the other?

It could be any number of things; as has been said I believe the oil pumps were pretty reliable, but injectors might be faulty I guess... You appear to have been able to rule out pure engine related things like the valves and camshaft - what about the cambelt and its pullies?

Is the noise definitely coming from the engine itself?

Or from any of the other belt/pulley combinations - alternator, water pump, power steering pump, a/c pump (if yours has it)?
