Wtd: 960/s90

After having owned my 2007 S40 D5 for about a year, I've decided that I'm not going to bond with it in the way that I've usually bonded with my Volvos. The S40 is just 'not me' - its too modern.

So I'm looking for a mint 960 (or even better S90) saloon. But here is the catch. I also own a LandRover V8 which has cost me several £k over the last year or two, so it has to be a SWAP. No cash top ups.

My S40 D5 (180bhp) has just 81k miles up, has an extensive service history, recent RainSport tyres all round and has no issues whatsoever - everything works. Inside its mint. Externally although there are no dents/scratches, the bonnet and roof look like they've been peppered by a gritter - there is no rust but it looks like dandraff and they could ideally do with a respray (hint - don't buy a car in the rain). The only reason for the change is that I'm bored with it. I paid £4k for it, but realistically I value it at £3.5k

The 960/S90 has to be a saloon as that's what the missus wants. It has to have leather & heated seats - again because thats what she wants. I'd prefer a 3.0 but I'll consider a 2.5 if its exceptional. I just want something that is in A1 condition, totally rust free, HPI clear and low mileage. I've had a few before so I know what a good one sounds and drives like ;) My S40 has no issues and I don't want to be buying a bucket of trouble :)

What have you got? If this advert is still being displayed then I'm still looking - I'm a patient guy and will wait for the right one to come along.

I hope I don't come across as a ****head, I just don't want to trade my trouble free daily driver for a nightmare car that someone is looking to offload :) Thanks for reading!

Can't believe it was that long ago!!!

Will also consider a good manual 940 saloon :)

Had a long chat with the missus today, and she's agreed to us getting an estate if the condition is right. Must still have working heated seats and aircon! :)

So we're now considering good 940/945 (turbo only), early or late 964/965, S90/V90.

Thanks

No longer looking!

Found a mint S70 T5 manual in the rose colour that I love... its an early one and is pretty much the same as my old 850R so I just fell for it straight away.

TBH I was getting fed up with seeing rusty, abused, wrecks being advertised for silly money and was getting disillusioned about having a 940/960.

Pictures please ???

Couldn't agree more with you on the silly Ebay prices for 940's and 960'S. One on today which is a "rare redblock" ??? Could well be rare as I havent seen many with gaffa tape holding the front wing on before :teeth_smile:

Funny how these people never seem to advertise these cars on the forum:teeth_smile:

Forgot to say that my 940 is indeed lovely:teeth_smile::teeth_smile::

Well done!

Let's see some pics as and when.

First of all I'd like to apologise to CaptJack - I know he has been considering an S70 as well, and normally I'd do the right thing and see if he was interested, but this one ticked so many boxes, and being a manual T5 I thought if I didn't buy it immediately someone else would nab it.

So having said that, the boxes to be ticked were -

wifey - saloon - tick
wifey - heated seats - tick
wifey - aircon - tick
me - whiteblock engine - tick
me - manual gearbox - tick
me - cream leather interior - tick
me - rose colour - tick
me - under 150k miles - tick
me - no rust - tick
me - condition at least 'above average' and capable of becoming A1 - tick

Its pretty nice isn't it. 130k miles, part service history HPI clear, excellent MoT history (just the usual tyres, light out etc).

A few things that caught my eye - it has an S70R front bumper and boot spoiler, it has genuine Volvo 'crystal' headlamps from a C70, it has an 'eggcrate' grille, and it has a genuine Volvo strut brace - all things that I put on my last V70 :D

The PO has also installed a BSR air intake which will go - I've never understood why people put cone filters in a hot engine bay? Thats 10bhp+ lost straight away. I'll be fitting a std airbox once I've given it a 'stage 0' service. If you have a keen eye you'll have noticed the accelerator cable in the engine pic - yes, its a pre- 'electronic throttle body' engine :D In other words, its mechanically identical to my beloved 850R - which I only sold because of the hard ride and auto gearbox.

After I'd hit the buy button, the garage called me back to give me some more info - its well known to the garage and they've been servicing it for a while. The PO was a bodyshop technician and so the spoilers are a perfect colour match and the body is 'very very good for a 23 year old vehicle'. He forgot to mention that its had a new clutch... and that he'll put a new MoT on it.

So I'm made up - I was after a long term keeper, and almost by accident I found the advert within an hour or so of it being posted. I reckon someone 'up there' was listening to my wish list and thought I could do with a break :D

That looks fantastic - delighted for you R-T. the only thing we'd have to agree to disagree about is the gearbox. Being a simple soul I gave up trying to operate three pedals with just two feet years ago!

The S70 is a hugely under-rated car. With the rear seats folded the load capacity is really excellent, and in terms of driving pleasure, an S70 is quieter and more refined than the estate equivalents.

I hope you have many years of first-class travel in your S70!

Cheers

Jack
