Tailgate only moves short distance
 

hi, has anyone else seen the following problem - 2011 V70 D5?

When I open the boot with the button, it only opens a short distance - I can get it open all the way through repeated pressing of the button (or manually).

When I try to close - it usually goes down and then bounces up without closing.

However - did experiment to see what happens with engine on (to check for voltage issue) - and closing operation seems to work OK with engine on, but opening still seems much the same ...

Took it to dealer, but they weren't able to diagnose - and don't to pay for expensive part replacement with no guarantee it would fix problem ...

There are few threads on here on this topic. A quick search should reveal a few. For my part I had this issue and after much troubleshooting involving replacement struts, replacement of hydraulic fluid and rubber bumpers I ended up having to replace the POT module.

Thanks - did spend some time searching forum before posting this, but didn't see anything matching symptoms for boot opening ...

I find that if I keep my finger on the remote or internal boot opening button longer, the boot door opens ok, it sometimes sticks if I just press once quickly. Make sure nothing is interfering with it engaging with the catch, like a rubber floor protector which is stopping the door from closing properly.

I'm not sure if the Volvo is the same as my Jaguar but they both have Ford heritage. The rear tailgate needs resetting if the battery is disconnected similar to auto windows . You can also set the amount it opens incase you garage your car and the garage roof is low.Open the tailgate with the button on the dash. Set it to the height you want it manually then press the button on the dash a couple of times. It's worth a try and only takes a couple of minutes
