Clutch replacement with Ford Mondeo part, high revs to MPH

hi all,

My car is a 2006 S40 1.8 Volvo Manual Trans

Due to a slipping clutch, I Had a clutch replacement yesterday, they changed the Duel Mass fly wheel with all new but for a Mondeo 230M (part 336590440), a 2 piece Clutch kit from Ford (641590870) and a duel mass flywheel fitting (LAB-DMF). Also a concentric slave cylinder (645590220)

Since getting it back, I have noticed that the Revs are at 3k where they were normally at 2k before me having to change up a gear.

For instance, in 3rd gear going to fourth, i am at 3k revs before I hit 30 mph.

Similarly in 5th gear at 60mph, I am at 3000 revs already. Is this normal? It does not look like it should be that high per gear and speed to me.

Unfortunately not able to anticipate this issue, i didn't record what it looked like before the car started to have a slipping clutch. But when slipping, it was at 3k revs at 60mph in 5th gear also.

Is there an adjustment that they should have done or do you think that the Ford parts are not compatible with the Volvo I use?

I am confused so need to know anyone with the same car also, who can give me the Revs/Gear#/Mph to compare against.

Advice appreciated!

is the clutch slipping now ? Anything could happen with the wrong parts ...

Easy way to tell if a manual is slipping, put it under high load at low rpm.

E.g. Cruise at 30mph in 4th gear then put your foot down, if the revs race up quicker than they would under normal acceleration, then your clutch is slipping.

Who recommended to you using Mondeo part? Was that based on experience or "should fit" advice?
Not saying its wrong as a lot of parts from Ford fit our cars and are even better replacement (Focus RS clutch for example) but never heard of Mondeo direct compatibility....

Thanks for the responses. The company are a well known clutch specialist. They elected to fit it and tell me after.

With regards to the slipping clutch, I will test this but the first 500 miles, the clutch is bedding in , they said to bring it back but I have to wait til Friday for this as I cannot get the time off to drop it over to them.

its hard to tell until i test it using the process now.

The clutch fitter said its normal for a car gear change from 2-3000 revs before you look to change gear. But it only reaches fast enough to change gear after i have gone to 3k revs..

I cant tell you if its a right fit for your car or not, but there are only 2 options I think - its really slipping and hence the rpm increase, or you are observing it like a hawk now and notice things that previously maybe was the same but you didnt pay attention?
Cant help you with comparison as I have 6speed but on my type of gearbox you are looking on around 2200 - 2400rpm on 4th gear and 45mph on standard 205/50/17 tyres (depending if FWD/AWD).
Maybe others with 1.8 can provide more accurate info.

Yes you could be right about me being too sensitive to it. But I have had a number o cars in my time and never had a gear change at 3000 revs. I normally hit 2000 revs and the mph is high enough to move up a gear.

I can't speak for the 1.8 but in my 2.0 I'm at 3050RPM at 70MPH in 5th gear.

Roughly 2000RPM in 3rd gear just before hitting 30MPH at which point I'd normally change to 4th.

Dunno if that helps?
