T5 time for new front tyres
 

I hate 'tyre' threads as much as the next member but please bear with me.

My wishbones were knackered last year and (I believe) scrubbed the inner edges of the tyres more than the center part, the central part of the tyre still had 4-5mm tread. I replaced the wishbones and had the tracking set on a hunters machine thinking I'd let the tyres run down some more in the centre before replacing.

Just had a look at the inner edges and there are cords exposed :eek:

I'm running Pirelli P7 Cinturatos which have given good wear and have been fine, now though the front end feels weird as the tyres are unevenly worn. I feel as if I should have the tracking done AGAIN as maybe the wishbones have settled on their bushes.

Obviously I need new tyres but Pirelli P7's are quite expensive (£93.00 ea) we're doing our house up at the moment so money is tight. I've seen Goodyear Efficient Grip's for £75.00 ea (discounted) and feel like going for these, I only do 4000 miles per year but do enjoy driving the car 'properly'.

Not usually a fan of mixing tyres between front and back axles but if needs must I will accept that.

Any words of wisdom/experience of the Goodyears?

I can't speak for Goodyear tyres but the Eagle F1 get favourable ratings...

If your budget can allow I would go for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4, they are excellent tyres, and wear well.
I purchase mine through Black Circles and quite often there is a buy now pay later finance option which allows you to pay off the amount before the end of the 6 month period + £30.
I just simply set up a standing order to my savings account for the cost of the tyres and early settlement fee, then pay it all off 6 months down the line.

MPS4(225/40/18): £405.8 + Settlement fee: £30 = £435.8
410/6 = £67.64

There's something niggling me about compromising on the front tyres that I'll end up not liking the 'feel' of them and feeling like I've wasted money.

Other problem is the rear Pirelli's still have 7mm on them :eek:

Yeh +1 on the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s.

Since running Michelin Pilot Sport 3's previously and now Michelin Pilot Sport 4's. I can defenitly recommend the 4's. Great on the dry and the wet and ride is good from the tire.

When it comes to price I always shop around, I either use blackcircles or mytires and if I am really after a bargain I use ebay and keep an eye out on single tires that people are trying to shift. Picked up all my winter tires on ebay for next to nothing and they were brand new and then got a garage to fit them, I think I even got 2 of my PS4's brand new of ebay for half the price.

Wow £87.00 :shocked: the same tyre in 205/50/17 93W XL on their website is £101.00 :eek:

The more common the tyre size, they more they sell, the cheaper the tyres are...

225/40/18 is common as muck, so nice and cheap.

215/45/18 is a stupid size that Volvo and very few others use, hence why it's so much more expensive.

done 10k miles on them so far and thread is still pretty good, although I would say they are past the half-life period, not sure if I can do another 10k.

but performance - wise, love them!

Try Asda for tyres. I usually use camskill for loose tyres, but checking their website against Asda fitted tyre prices it would work out cheaper, as my options for tyre fitting locally is either around £15 for tyre fitting, valve balance and disposal, or a tenner a tyre and I have to dispose of the old tyre, which my local amenity tip charge for.
