My VIN doesn't make sense
Was hoping someone could give me info on this VIN for a car I'm about to buy.
2015 V40 T3 Geartronic VIN: YV1MV29H0G2279509 Engine number: B4154T41264452 The VIN decoders tell me it's a 2016 V40 and it has an old 2.0T engine in it??? I'm excited about owning my first Volvo but completely inept when it comes to these things unfortunately. I tried VIN decoders but most of them give me an error stating the VIN is incorrect. Also , how is it possible for a 2016 to have been registered in 2015?? |

Cars delivered from the factory after August belong to the following model year. A car first registered in say September could have been sitting on the dealer yard for 3 months, and come from the same model year as the registration year. Or it could be fresh from the factory and from the following model year. My MY2009 XC90 was first registered in October 2008, but is a 2009 model year |
Ah. That actually makes a lot of sense. Thanks for clarifying that for me. I really appreciate the input.
Last question. Given the engine number and geartronic, which variant of the T3 is the car most likely to have, the Ford 1.5 EcoBoost, 1.6 EcoBoost, or the newer VEA 1.5? And how can you tell? The engine designation in the vin (29H) constantly spits out a ~2004 2.0T engine in all the vin reference guides |

I can't help with the VIN number but can confirm that a 2016 model year car will have the Volvo VEA 1.5L engine. All engines from 2016 model year are Volvo VEA. The engine code B4154T4 is for the T3 1.5L geartronic. Earlier T2 and T3 up to 2015 model year are Ford ecoboost 1.6L but only available with manual gearbox. |
Perfect. You guys rock. Thank you sooooo much.
